The San Telmo neighbourhood, in Buenos Aires, is one of the oldest in the city. It is also one of the best preserved areas, characterised by its colonial mansions and cobbled streets. It is home to one of the best known markets in Buenos Aires, which takes place in the Plaza Dorrego square every Sunday. The neighbourhood is rooted in art and literature, and is home to a range of museums and exhibitions devoted to tango. The neighbourhood is also home to the statue of Mafalda, Quino’s illustrated character, who sits on a bench waiting for tourists to take photos with her.
Visiting San Telmo
“The organisation which included tours, transfers and internal flights was excellent. Local tour companies were spot on with communication and we had friendly English speaking tour guides throughout. We knew the trip would be 'full-on' to fit in everything scheduled but it was just fantastic and worth the effort.”
“‘Stunning locations and great to explore so much in such a short space of time.’
“‘The hotel in Rio was excellent and in an amazing position. The airport pickups were all waiting for us on arrival and the pickups and guides for the tours were all punctual, friendly and informative.’
