One of the 13 original gates from when Prague was a walled city. It was a coronation gift to one of the kings of Bohemia. At that time it was known as New Tower and the kings would parade beneath it. Once they were installed, the tower was abandoned. It suffered various fires and damage, which lead to it being renovated several times. During the 17th century it was used as a gunpowder store, gaining the name by which it is known today. Today it is one of the best viewpoints in the city; the views are impressive.
