When is the best time to visit Jordan

There are several factors to take into consideration when deciding when to travel to Jordan, and undoubtedly one of them is the weather. This varies depending on the region of the country in question, as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, despite being a desert, consists of five ecoregions.

The Best Time to Travel to Jordan

This country situated in the Middle East has various climates depending on the region. For example, in the north, there are both deserts, and Mediterranean forests. In the south of the country however, there is another type of more arid desert, as well as a semi-tropical desert. But in Jordan there are also wetlands, and protected forest reserves with lots of wildlife and water from the Zarqa River.

All of these characteristics mean that this country has a very diverse climate. However, to make the most of the weather, it is best to visit Jordan between April and May, or September and October. In other words, spring and autumn are the best times to visit the country.

During the winter, temperatures are lower, so it isn’t advisable to visit between November and March. In summer on the other hand, it will be the heat which will prevent you from enjoying Jordan’s beauty; in June, July and August, temperatures can be extremely high.

Let’s have a look at when to travel to Jordan to visit the main tourist destinations and the best landscapes of this exotic country.

When to Travel to Amman and the North of Jordan

If your trip includes the city of Amman and the north of Jordan, it is better to arrange to go in the spring or autumn. Within these times, in spring it is best to go in April or May, and during the autumn in September or October. It will be a pleasant temperature, it won’t rain or be too hot.

Also in the north is Jerash, known as the Pompeii of the Middle East, a tourist attraction which is very famous for being one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world. To walk through this historic place, avoid the heat of the summer and preferably choose spring or autumn.

When to Travel to Madaba and the Centre of Jordan

The City of Mosaics is another key element that can determine when to travel to Jordan. Choose to visit the city in the spring, and if that is not possible, postpone the trip until autumn, which is another excellent time to travel to this part of Jordan.

To visit the Dead Sea and Wadi Mujib in the central-north of the country, you will have to avoid the summer months as well as winter. Trekking through the Wadi Mujib gorge in the scorching heat wouldn’t be a good idea, in the same way as bathing in the Dead Sea in freezing temperatures also wouldn’t be.

It is best to travel in April and May where you will be able to explore this part of Jordan in total comfort. The prices may be lower in September and October, which also offer good weather, and is not so popular with tourists.

When to Travel to Bethany Beyond the Jordan and Mount Nebo

The biblical city of Bethany Beyond the Jordan, as well as Mount Nebo, can be found towards the centre of Jordan, where you can get the best views of the Dead Sea and almost all of Israel. These Jordanian territories, as well as their importance to Catholic beliefs, are extremely beautiful.

For this reason, you should travel to this area in spring or autumn, otherwise you may not make the most of everything on offer. It is best to avoid the summer if you can, as the high temperatures won’t allow you to walk peacefully through the famous city, nor to quietly contemplate the views from Mount Nebo.

When to Travel to Petra and the South of Jordan

Without a doubt, your trip to Jordan must include the wonderful city of Petra, as well as the Wadi Rum Desert. If you want to avoid high season do not travel to Jordan between March and May, as prices are higher, and you will have to share these wonders with thousands of other visitors.

Between September and February on the other hand, prices are more reasonable as it is mid-season, and you can still enjoy the good weather, particularly in September and October. January and February are colder months, so they are not advisable for those who are sensitive to the cold.

The tourist low season coincides with summer, from June to August, but of course the temperatures are more extreme, so it is not a great idea to choose these months. In addition, many establishments close during this time.

Now you know when to travel to Jordan to have the best travel experience, now all you have to do is choose the month and pack your suitcases.
