What to see in Moscow? Spend 3 days in the Russian capital

We know what happens when you realize that what to see in Moscow is not a question easy to answer. But do not worry because in Exoticca we have prepared the best itinerary so you do not miss the most important stops. Just make sure this is the part of Russia you would like to visit and get ready to enjoy it!

What to see in Moscow in 3 days – Day 1

Start the day at the Red Square

With more than 23,000 square meters, The Red Square is one of the largest squares in the world, and also the most famous of them all. Here you will find some of the most famous places in Russia. Such as St. Basil’s Cathedral and Lenin’s Mausoleum.

Do not miss the Kremlin

Few sites are as mythical in history as the Moscow Kremlin. It is a huge venue, but you can only visit some areas.
There are different tickets available:

  • The Armory: It is a very popular museum. The exhibition shows everything from gold to floats, through mail and jewelry.
  • The Cathedral Square: This is the place where coronations and burials of the Tsars have always been celebrated. This square is a spectacular and unique place in the world. It houses seven buildings of great historical and artistic value. They are not very large, so we recommend you take a look at them all.

Admire the Cathedral of Christ the Savior of Moscow

Strolling from the Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior is easy to reach. This is the highest Orthodox church in the world.
The temple was built in the 19th century, but Stalin destroyed it in 1931. It was rebuilt in the 90s and consecrated again in 2000.

What to see in Moscow in 3 days – Day 2

Travel through time in Kolomenskoye

Kolomenskoye is an old town on the outskirts of Moscow- It used to be the residence of the Russian princes and tsars.
One of the most interesting places in Kolomenskoye is a large meadow where you will find several buildings. The most spectacular is the Church of the Ascension.
The crown jewel of Kolomenskoye is the Wooden Palace. The building that still stands is not the original, but a reconstruction made in the 21st century. Nevertheless, this is one of the main stops in your list of what to see in Moscow.

What to see in Moscow, day 3

Start the day walking along Arbat Street

Arbat street is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. In the past, it was part of a well-off neighborhood and now it is, above all, a tourist destination. Still, it’s worth taking a little spin.
The street is some kilometer long. Here you will find souvenir shops, stalls with paintings, some graffiti on the side streets, restaurants… everything you can think off.
We recommend you to get off the subway at the Smolenskaya stop, walk the whole street and take the subway again in Arbatskaya.

Buy yourself a souvenir from Moscow in the Izmailovo market

Can you even think of going to Russia and not take a matryoshka? In this outdoor market, you will find absolutely everything. From souvenirs “made in China” to clothing, antiques, old junk and all kinds of warlike objects from the communist era.
The prices are quite good. Even if you do not get to buy anything there are also stalls and restaurants to eat.

The Gulag Museum

If you like history, and you are interested in knowing more about the USSR, this is a mandatory stop in your list of what to see in Moscow. Keep in mind that this is not the best place if you travel with children or you are very sensitive. Atrocities occurred in the past, and they are reflected in the museum.
Take subway line 6 to Dostoyevskaya. There, you will have to walk about 15 minutes through a residential neighborhood. This is a good opportunity to get to know how Russian people live now in Moscow.

Meet the Moscow metro

We can not think of a better way to finish this route through Moscow in 3 days than going through the “village museum”. It does not have that name by chance.
During communism, the government wanted to bring art to the people and also to deliver propaganda. It didn’t matter where. The result is that the underground is an attraction in itself. Some stations look like real palaces.

We hope this list of what to see in Moscow gives you a closer idea of how to spend your three days there. Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you need any help making arrangements for your trip. And, remember, there are many more places to see in Russia. If you prefer little villages, we can also take you there. When you think of traveling, think of Exoticca.
