Where to travel in March

The sun timidly begins to shine and take precedence, but the breeze is still cool. The ski slopes are still open and the farthest and most exotic destinations have more accessible prices. Here are some possibilities for travelling in March.

Galapagos Islands in March

Galapagos Islands in March

The Galapagos Islands are the most sought after dream for nature lovers. This archipelago in the middle of the Pacific offers the traveller the most unique experience in the whole world.  A true natural paradise located among still active volcanoes and surrounded by the most spectacular beaches. It contains enormous biodiversity of flora and fauna, and is the place where some of the most exotic animals on Earth live. March is a rainy month there, this is certain, but this is not a reason to dismiss this trip, as the rain tends to be of short duration. The islanders say that after the rain, the waters become even more crystalline. This month is the start of the nesting season for birds, so you will be able to see more species, as well as the tortoises and marine iguanas on the coast, for which this is one of the best destinations to travel to in March.

Travel to India in March

In March the country has a very agreeable climate before the arrival of the intense summer heat, when it is quite difficult for tourists to endure the suffocating humidity and the high temperatures. So this is the ideal time to organise the classic triangular route that connects New Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan. Of course, you should not miss the marvellous Holi festival, a Hindu celebration of the coming of spring. Bombay is one of the best cities for taking part in this festival representing the triumph of good over evil. The culmination of the celebration is the colour festival, where inhabitants spray the streets with coloured powders then spray water over everyone, and everyone ends up covered in pure colour.

Austin, Texas

Austin, the capital of the Texan state, emerges from winter with the thunderous rhythm of its awesome Festival SXSW, which has over 2000 acts. It is the largest festival of its kind in the world. It is heaven on earth for lovers of country, rock and the blues. But, this city also has a lots of green areas through which you can ride a bike or a segway. There are also some pleasant hiking trails, and afterwards, you can relax in one of its charming pubs.

Ireland

Ireland is one of the best destinations to travel in March, as on the 17th St Patrick’s Day is celebrated in style. On that day, Dublin fills with green and white, and the streets of the city turn into a swarm of music, fun and beer, lots of beer. The tradition is to wear something green and pin a shamrock to your jacket. As St Patrick is the patron saint of the Irish, this festival is celebrated, with no expense spared, in other cities where communities of Irish origin exist, such as New York, Boston and Chicago.

Visiting Cairo in March

Visiting Cairo in March is another very interesting option. Right between two seasons and between peak times. Flights are cheaper, its not crowded and the weather is at its best. The legendary Great Sphynx and the mysterious pyramids are located outside the city. If you like history, you will love the archaeology at Memphis, Saqqara and Dahshur. Once you have completed your journey into the past and have caught your breath, don’t miss out on the Khan el-Khalili bazaar or taking a stroll along part of Al-Azhar.

Tuscany

If you don’t want to go too far, you can pop into neighbouring Italy, which is also one of the best destinations for travelling in March. The climate is ideal for a full tour, which could start at the famous Pisa. Getting around the region by train or car will allow you to enjoy the countryside as it begins to bloom and fill with green. Sienna and Florence are another two cities which you must visit, although Tuscany also offers less well-known corners which are just as beautiful, such as Lucca, Montalcino or San Gimgniano. During this month there is much less tourism, so visiting monuments will be more pleasant. As it is low season, prices for accommodation will also be lower, so you will be able to make reservations in magical places at a lower price.
